Learn more: The World Bank-supported Chad-Cameroon oil pipeline has been operational for over six years, but the controversy surrounding the so-called oil for development project has hardly died down. The 1070 km (670 mile) pipeline transports oil from the Doba fields of southwestern Chad to a marine loading terminal off the Atlantic coast near Kribi, Cameroon. From one end of the pipeline to the other, project partners raised the hopes and expectations of local populations. But today, for those who had no real choice or say about the project, the disappointment is profound. Learn more about this reporting project: http://www.pulitzercenter.org/showproject.cfm?id=135

In early 2012, a heavily-armed band of foreign poachers, believed to be Sudanese, entered on horseback across Cameroon's border with Chad. Over two months, the group slaughtered over 300 elephants for their ivory in Bouba N'Djida National Park. Before the incident, the park was home to the most important population of savanna elephants in Central Africa. Very few now remain alive. As international pressure mounted, Cameroon military responded, but it was too late to save the elephants. Since the incident Cameroon has increased protection at its park and announced plans to hire 2,500 new rangers to be deployed across the country. While some places are on this list due to armed conflicts and violence, other places are on the list thanks to physical or biological calamities. Regardless of the reasons, the one thing all of these places have in common is that most western governments do not advise travel to them unless it is absolutely necessary. These are the 25 most dangerous places to visit as a tourist. Also, before we continue, just remember, being on this list doesn't necessarily mean the entire country is bad to visit (although it can). Just make sure to check on regional travel warnings. The Gerewol is an annual courtship ritual competition among the Woodabe Japto people of Western Chad. Young men dressed in elaborate ornamentation and made up in traditional face painting gather in lines to dance and sing, vying for the attentions of marriageable young women. The Gerewol occurs each year as the traditionally nomadic Woodabe cattle herders gather at the southern edge of the Sahara in Chad before dispersing south on their dry season pastures. There is normally a large festival and market as well as a series of clan meetings that take place for the Woodabe. The actual dance event is called the Yaake, while other less famous elements—bartering over dowry, competitions or horse races among suitors—make up the week-long Gerewol.

In Islam, the Devil is known as ʾIblīs (Arabic: إبليس, plural: ابالسة ʾAbālisa) or Shayṭān (Arabic: شيطان, plural: شياطين Shayāṭīn). According to the Quran, God created Iblis out of "smokeless fire or from the pure flame of fire" (along with all of the other jinn) and created man out of clay. The primary characteristic of the Devil, is that he has the power to cast evil suggestions into the heart of men, women, and jinn, Iblis was proud and arrogant and considered himself superior to Adam, since Adam was made from clay and Iblis from smokeless fire. For this act of disobedience, God cursed him to Hell for eternity, but gave him respite until the Day of Judgment (Qiyāmah), after Iblis requested it. Iblis obtained permission from God and vowed that he would use this time to lead all human...
